UAE establish humanitarian “air bridge” with Afghanistan

The UAE has served as a staging area for evacuation flights for foreigners and Afghans trying to flee Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return on Aug. 15.

Humanitarian aid is being created in Afghanistan. The UAE has established a “air lift” since September 3 to deliver humanitarian aid to the country that has fallen into Taliban hands, he told AFP on Saturday, September 11 Ibrahim Moarafi, regional director of GAAC, based in the Emirates and responsible for managing the activities of the airport in Kabul. Like other wealthy Gulf countries, close allies of the United States, the Emirates has served as transit zones for evacuation flights for foreigners and Afghans who have tried to flee Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return on Aug. 15.

“From that day until now, we receive and manage 11 flights almost daily, or 255 tons of medical care and food products”, he clarified. On Saturday, two planes from the Emirates unloaded dozens of aid boxes containing meat, powdered milk, oil and medical supplies. More than two-thirds of the 120,000 Afghans and foreigners who fled Afghanistan on evacuation flights landed in the Emirates and Qatar before continuing on to their final destination.
