The Miami Heat ripped control of their playoff destiny out of Philadelphia’s hands on Monday night. With the Eastern Conference play-in tournament picture creating a brutal late-season bottleneck, Miami erupted for a devastating game-ending 14-0 run to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers 119-109 at the Kaseya Center.
The 76ers looked fully in control with just over three minutes remaining. They had successfully erased a 15-point third-quarter deficit. Joel Embiid drained a clutch 3-pointer with 3:22 left on the clock to give Philadelphia a 107-103 advantage. Then, the Sixers’ offense completely evaporated.
Miami slammed the door shut. Over the final 2:36 of regulation, the Heat outscored Philadelphia 14-0, executing flawlessly on both ends of the floor, according to a detailed post-game recap of the Monday night clash.
Tyler Herro spearheaded the Miami offense, pouring in a game-high 30 points. The Heat dominated the interior thanks to Bam Adebayo, who posted a massive double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Pelle Larsson provided a critical unexpected spark. He dropped 20 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds to help secure the victory.
Philadelphia is still trying to find its late-season rhythm after an injury-plagued stretch that previously saw the Nuggets rout the depleted 76ers 124-96. The team only recently integrated their star duo back into the rotation on March 25. Embiid paced the Sixers with 26 points in the loss. Tyrese Maxey filled the stat sheet with 23 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds. Paul George added 19 points, while VJ Edgecombe chipped in 13 points and five assists.
Embiid recently returned from a 13-game absence caused by a strained right oblique. George recently stepped back onto the court after serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s drug policy.
The collapse carries massive implications for the Eastern Conference standings. The win pushes Miami’s record to 40-36. They now sit in a virtual tie for the No. 8 spot with Orlando as they fight to escape the play-in tournament entirely. Philadelphia drops to 41-34. They remain stranded in the No. 7 spot in the East with time running out in the regular season.
