Two-time national champions FC Porto suffered a surprising 4-3 defeat to Turquel on Saturday, marking the biggest upset of the Portuguese roller hockey league’s second matchday.
The reigning champions fell to an underdog side in a high-scoring contest. Turquel secured the winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in the match.
FC Porto initially took the lead with a goal from Gonçalo Alves. However, Turquel quickly responded. Martim Costa equalized, and Tiago Mateus then put the home side ahead 2-1 before halftime.
In the second half, Carlo di Benedetto brought FC Porto level at 2-2. Turquel regained the lead through Francisco Sanchez. Gonçalo Alves then scored his second goal, tying the game at 3-3.
Daniel Passos netted Turquel’s decisive fourth goal with just 3 minutes and 45 seconds left on the clock. FC Porto later had a potential fifth goal disallowed, sealing their unexpected loss. The match was characterized by its frenetic pace.
