Two students survive grizzly bear attack in US

Two American students came to blows with a grizzly on October 16 in Wyoming (United States). The animal took them by surprise as they returned from a hunting trip, reports CNN relayed by The Parisian.

The two young people had just arrived near their car when one of them spotted bear prints around the vehicle. He barely had time to warn his friend before the grizzly appeared and attacked him. “He grabbed my arm, he shook me and he broke my arm,” recalls the young man interviewed by CNN.

Rescued by farmers

The other student attempted to entertain the animal by screaming and throwing objects at it. Seeing that his attempts were in vain, he then threw himself on the grizzly to save his friend. The bear attacked him, biting him several times. He then moved away to return immediately, notably attacking the young man in the head and cheek before leaving for good.

Immediately, the first attacked student left to seek help. The duo were rescued by friends they had spent the afternoon with as well as local farmers, who alerted the rescuers. The two victims were hospitalized but their life is not in danger.

The two students still consider themselves incredibly lucky to have survived this confrontation. According to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, the region where the facts occurred could currently shelter six to ten bears evolving “between agricultural fields and low-altitude slopes”.
