A drug boat struck a Civil Guard boat in the port of Barbate, Spain, killing two agents. Another agent is also in a coma and another is slightly injured.
The patrol boat, much smaller than the drug traffickers’ boats, tried unsuccessfully to corner one of the “rubbers.” Turns ensued at full speed to the cheers of a large group of people cheering on the drug dealers.
Barbate is 64 kilometers from the provincial capital of Cádiz.
The Civil Guard has arrested eight people in Sotogrande for their alleged involvement in the agents’ deaths. Three of those arrested are crew members of the drug boat and the other two people who went to pick them up were also arrested. Three more people were subsequently arrested. One of them is the pilot, a man with a background named Kabra.
The Civil Guard attributes two suspected homicides and serious injuries to law enforcement officers to the six detainees, three of whom are 21, 24 and 28 years old, they are all Spanish and have a history of drug trafficking law enforcement officers, injuries, property crimes and money laundering. The remaining two arrested are 34 and 54 years old and are also Spanish with a history of drug trafficking and smuggling.
This event occurred on the same day that Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska traveled to the region to praise his special security plan for the Gibraltar countryside.
