Two French nationals were arrested in Iran, announced Thursday, May 12 the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has “condemned this baseless arrest” and demanded their “immediate release”. In its press release, the Quai d’Orsay does not specify their identity, but according to our information, they are two members of the Force Ouvrière union, Cécile Kohler and her companion. They were on a tourist trip to Iran.

“The French authorities are fully mobilized” and “the ambassador in Tehran made representations to the Iranian authorities to obtain consular access (…) and the charge d’affaires of the Iranian embassy in Paris was summoned to the ministry”says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iran announced on Wednesday the arrest of two Europeans accused of wanting “trigger chaos and destabilize society”. Tehran has taken prisoner several foreign nationals for reasons deemed political by Western countries, which consider that the authorities use it as a means of pressure in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear.
