Twitter’s iconic 12-foot bird logo, affectionately known as “Larry,” has a new owner. The massive sign, which once perched atop the company’s San Francisco headquarters, sold for $34,375 at auction.
This price is a bit lower than expected – it was predicted to fetch around $40,000. Still, it’s a unique price for a piece of Twitter history. The giant logo was removed from its spot on Market Street after Elon Musk renamed Twitter to X.
The winner of the auction will have to handle the cost of transporting “Larry” from its storage spot in San Francisco. That’s no easy feat, considering the logo weighs 560 pounds and measures 12 feet by 8 feet. A video shows a crane and a team of workers were needed to lift it out of the building. For now, the new owner’s identity remains a secret, but it’s likely “Larry” will generate excitement wherever it ends up.
This isn’t the first time “Larry” has been up for auction. After Musk bought Twitter in 2022, several items from the old office were sold off in 2023. A smaller Twitter logo even sold for a hefty price, with one statue from the office going for $100,000.
