Twitter will adopt one of the best features of WhatsApp

Twitter and WhatsApp are two quite different platforms, but they will soon share a feature that will unequivocally benefit users. The problem is end-to-end encryption technology on any message sent.

This seems to be the latest project of the Twitter team now under the command of millionaire Elon Musk. Apparently, the encryption of private messages on this social network could be his next big thing.

End-to-end encryption of private Twitter messages in development

The clue of this novelty was left by the programmer Jane Manchun Wong. This found several lines of code in the Twitter for Android app that suggest development of this feature.

References such as “encryption keys” or “conversation keys” were the red flags Wong found on the Twitter app. In its description we can even read: “If it matches the recipient’s phone number, end-to-end encryption is guaranteed.”

These are clear signs that end-to-end encryption is something in the works at Twitter. A feature that will guarantee the privacy of all direct messages exchanged between the users of this social network.

As with WhatsApp or Signal, this means that only those involved in a conversation will be able to see its content. Not even those responsible for Twitter will be able to correctly read the messages exchanged on the platform.

Elon Musk almost confirmed this news

Faced with these discoveries, Jane Manchun Wong decided to share them on Twitter and ended up receiving a response from Elon Musk himself. The now owner of the social network responded with the “wink” emoji.

This response is widely interpreted as confirmation that this feature is coming to Twitter. Which makes a lot of sense after Musk praised Signal for offering this option.

I remind you that this is not an unprecedented project within Twitter. In 2018, the social network began to develop this feature, calling it “secret conversations.”

Unfortunately, those responsible for Twitter abandoned this feature without explaining the reasons. Now, under the leadership of Elon Musk, everything indicates that the project has been revived and that it will finally be a reality for all users.
