Twenty years after the attack on the Twin Towers, two other victims have been identified

Two victims of the September 11, 2001 at the Twin Towers from New York were identified through DNA testing, as reported on Tuesday officially.

In that way, There are a total of 1,647 victims of those attacks whose identity could be reliably established, said New York City Chief of Forensic Medicine Barbara Sampson.

The latest identified victims are Dorothy Morgan and a man whose identity was withheld due to an express wish of his family, according to the AFP news agency. Morgan’s identification was confirmed by a DNA examination of the remains recovered in 2001; while that of the man was made with remains recovered in 2001, 2002 and 2006.

They are the first victims of these attacks (in which 2753 people died in total, according to official data) that have been identified since October 2019.

“20 years ago we promised the families of the victims that we would do everything possible for as long as necessary to identify their loved ones and with these two new identifications we continue to fulfill the sacred commitment“Sampson said when presenting the new data.

He added that “no matter how long since September 11, 2001, we will never forget and we are committed to making use of all the tools at our disposal.”
