I must confess, I’ve never been a die-hard fan of any musician or band to the point of joining a club filled with people who share the same passion. However, after experiencing the electric atmosphere that Twenty One Pilots’ fans created at the GNP Seguros stadium, I couldn’t help but want to be part of their inner circle. The energy was palpable, and I found myself drawn to the excitement and dedication of their fan base.
To be honest, I don’t consider myself a hardcore admirer of the duo composed of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. Nevertheless, I do enjoy some of their songs and have immense respect for their live performances. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to see them three times, and although I’ve always had a good time, there was something missing that didn’t quite resonate with me.
I even had the opportunity to see Twenty One Pilots at an intimate concert they gave at the National Auditorium in 2024, just before they announced their world tour for CLAY. The experience was great, and I was able to witness the passion of their followers in Mexico and the extent of their dedication. However, nothing could have prepared me for the grandeur of their show at the GNP Seguros stadium.
Twenty One Pilots and their fans made history at the CDMX GNP Stadium
It’s astonishing to see how much two individuals can mean to new generations and how bands can demonstrate the love of their fans in our country. The stadium was filled to the brim, with fans dressing up in outfits inspired by the band and giving their all to the last song. The crowd was an integral part of the show, jumping, singing, and creating an impressive mosaic of lights.
Of course, the band’s performance was key to making this happen, and it’s no secret that they’re one of the best live acts currently. However, I’d say that the crowd was responsible for at least 50% of the show’s success. From the moment the concert began, the audience was applauding, showing their support for Tyler and Josh, and even organizing the famous wave that erupted on several occasions.
As I reflect on the concert, I think it’s the first time I’ve felt like the stadium stands were genuinely going to collapse (I hope the GNP Seguros stadium’s renovation includes reinforcing them!). The connection between the duo and their fans was undeniable, and they paid tribute to this relationship with a heartwarming video that showcased the love and romance between the band and their audience. “Mexico, you look beautiful. We’ve been waiting for this show,” Tyler Joseph exclaimed, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
It’s worth noting that this presentation in Mexico was the largest Twenty One Pilots has given throughout their history, and their fans were more than up to the task. They even recorded the concert, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll release it officially.
Tyler and Josh’s love for their audience in Mexico was palpable, and they put together a touching video to demonstrate it, featuring fans who had waited hours to see them up close. The setlist was a perfect blend of old and new, with the duo venturing into almost everything from their latest album, CLAY, as well as other fan favorites from Blurryface, Scaled and Icy, Trench, and Vessel. They even debuted “The Line,” the song they composed for Arcane, live for the first time.
The setlist was one of the best I’ve seen Twenty One Pilots play in our country, complete and concise. They ended the night with “Trees,” with Josh and Tyler performing in the middle of the crowd, giving it their all. The evening was nothing short of epic, and I’d say it’s one of the best concerts I’ve seen so far in 2025.
