TV presenter detained by the Taliban, confirms his media

One of Afghanistan’s best-known television hosts has been detained by the Taliban, apparently for reporting that authorities had banned the broadcast of foreign drama series, independent television channel TOLOnews confirmed on Friday.

The presenter Bahram Aman was arrested Thursday night at the offices of TOLOnews, along with the information director Khpalwak Sapai and a legal adviser, Nafi Khaleeq, the main Afghan independent network reported in a statement, specifying that the latter two had been quickly released.

"The three were arrested for disseminating information according to which the authorities had banned television networks from broadcasting foreign drama series."he explained.

A member of Aman’s family, who requested anonymity, told AFP that he was "worried" since the taliban "they had already threatened him" in the past.

The Taliban Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice banned the broadcast of television series featuring women in November, unless they promoted an Islamic theme.

This directive was applied in various ways and the Islamists seem to want to apply it more strictly, as reported by TOLOnews.

Reports of the three men’s arrest prompted a swift reaction from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
