Turner Breaks Ground on $900M Hospital Expansion in Pennsylvania

Turner, a subsidiary of the ACS Group, has started working on an expansion of the $900 million Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

The renovation will increase the capacity of the emergency department, critical care, trauma, surgical services, and advanced cardiovascular programs. Dave Kaminski, Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Company, said, “It’s great to get started on a project that will transform care delivery in Northeastern Pennsylvania. This expansion of the complex will advance healthcare in the region and meet the needs of the community. We look forward to working with Geisinger, our business partners, and the local community as we advance the project.”

The first phase of the project will be carried out on an area of 55,700 square meters for the construction of the hospitalization tower and the renovation of the space dedicated to emergencies. The first part is expected to be completed in 2028, with work continuing until 2030.

The first phase of the 600,000-square-foot project includes the inpatient tower and the expansion and renovation of the emergency department, and is scheduled to be completed in 2028. Renovations to other areas of the medical center will continue through 2030.

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center specializes in traumatology and cardiac surgery and rehabilitation. It opened its doors in 1981 as part of the network of Geisinger group centers, which provides healthcare in central, southern, and northeastern Pennsylvania.

The expansion is added to other hospital contracts that Turner has carried out for the ACS group, including the Strong Memorial hospital at the University of Rochester, the San Antonio university clinical center, the Australian Royal Prince Alfred and Bundarberg Hospital.
