‘Turkish Airlines’ largest aircraft purchase order’

Turkey’s national airline plans to place the largest aircraft purchase order in industry history.

Speaking to the media, the chairperson of Turkish Airlines, Ahmed Bolat, said that national flag carrier Turkish Airlines is ready to order a total of 600 new aircraft in June, which will be delivered for 10 years.

Such an order, if confirmed, would be the largest order by a single airline in the history of the industry. In December, Air India placed a record order for 470 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

Ahmad Bolat said that Turkish Airlines’ fleet was about 414 aircraft as of the end of April, which will increase to 425 aircraft by the end of this year and 810 aircraft by 2033.

He suggested that the company would announce the order during the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) annual summit, which will be attended by around 280 airlines and will be held in Istanbul from June 4 to 6.

He said the Turkish airline was close to a deal with Boeing for part of the order, while a chairperson at Boeing’s European rival Airbus said Turkish Airlines would be at the next European air show in June. "It may order the rest of the new aircraft from “other manufacturers”. The Paris Air Show will take place on June 19.
