Tsunami alert after 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti

A tsunami watch was issued on Saturday after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, according to the American Institute of Geophysics (USGS). The earthquake occurred more than 160 km southwest of the capital, Port-au-Prince, around 8:30 am local time (12:30 pm GMT) according to the American Center for Seismology.

The long impact was felt throughout the country and material damage has already been registered in the towns of Jérémie and Les Cayes, according to images of witnesses in the southwest of the island’s peninsula.
