Former US President Donald Trump says he’ll talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
He’ll discuss ending the Ukraine war and trade issues.
Trump posted this on Truth Social on Saturday.
He said the call will focus on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, where around 5,000 soldiers from both sides are killed weekly.
Trade issues are also on the agenda.
This news comes after Ukraine and Russia met in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday.
It’s the first direct talk between the two countries in over three years.
Trump previously said he doubts significant progress will happen until he and Putin talk.
He told reporters earlier this week that nothing will change “until he and I speak.”
After speaking with Putin, Trump plans to talk to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several NATO members.
He hopes these talks will lead to a ceasefire and an end to the brutal war.
