International Diplomacy Efforts
Recent statements from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, have shed light on his plans for future international meetings. He expressed his intention to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, describing him as “an intelligent guy.” This sentiment was shared during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News.
Trump also discussed his plans to contact Kim Jong-un, with whom he had previously engaged in unsuccessful denuclearization negotiations. The president’s comments were made during a recorded interview at the White House, which was broadcast in two parts.
Conflict Resolution
The president also addressed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, reiterating his stance that Russian President Vladimir Putin must end the conflict to avoid strong sanctions. Trump emphasized that Putin’s actions were unjustified, saying “Putin shouldn’t have done it.” He urged for an immediate end to the conflict, implying that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski made a mistake by choosing to fight against the better-equipped Russian army.
Trump expressed his willingness to meet with Putin to negotiate a peace agreement in Ukraine, stating that he would meet “immediately” to discuss the matter. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that every day without a meeting results in the loss of soldiers’ lives.
Regional Cooperation
In other diplomatic efforts, Trump held a telephone conversation with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele to discuss cooperation on combating “illegal immigration” and “transnational gangs.” The White House announced that the two leaders explored ways to stop illegal immigration and take strong measures against gangs like the Aragua train, a Venezuelan-origin criminal gang declared a “terrorist organization” by the US president.
Trump praised Bukele’s leadership in the region, setting an example for other Western Hemisphere nations. Bukele responded to the acknowledgement with an emoticon on his social network X.
