Trump Signs Executive Order to Quadruple US Nuclear Energy Production

Donald Trump just made a big move on nuclear energy. He signed a bunch of orders to boost the US nuclear industry. The goal? Quadruple nuclear energy production in 25 years.

This happened on May 23, 2023. Trump signed the orders in the Oval Office. He said nuclear energy is a hot industry and it’s time for the US to make it great.

These orders include changing the nuclear regulatory committee. This will speed up new project approvals – to just 18 months. They’ll also use a special law to make nuclear fuel more secure.

But some experts are worried. They think rushing this process might harm public safety and the industry’s credibility in the long run.

Analysts think the US might not hit its goal. Right now, there are no new commercial nuclear reactors online in the US. In almost 50 years, only two new reactors have been built – in Georgia. They were late and way over budget – $17 billion.
