New US Tariffs on Imported Cars and Parts
US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on all cars imported into the US. This starts on April 2.
The move could make global trade tensions worse. Trump’s aide, Harrison Fields, said the tariffs apply to all types of vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and trucks.
A 25% tariff will also be added to essential car parts like engines and electronics. More parts might be added later if needed.
Some parts made in Mexico and Canada under a trade deal will be exempt – for now. The Commerce Secretary and Customs and Border Protection will decide how to enforce the tariffs on non-US goods.
