The president of the United States, Donald Trump, recently discussed the Ukraine War during a press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu. He expressed his desire to stop “the massacre” and mentioned that he receives weekly reports on the number of dead soldiers in Ukraine, describing the figures as “amazing.” These reports, according to him, are what motivate him to act soon to stop the conflict.
When discussing the situation in Ukraine, the US president stated that he wants the conflict to end, citing the significant number of casualties and destruction. He mentioned that the Ukrainian side has suffered around “700,000 dead soldiers” and the Russian side “800,000 maybe more.” These numbers are significantly higher than those reported by the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski.
According to Volodimir Zelenski, the Ukrainian military has lost around 45,100 soldiers in the war against Russia, with an additional 390,000 injured. He also estimated that Russia has lost approximately 350,000 soldiers, with between 50,000 and 70,000 considered missing in combat. The Ukrainian president explained that the difference in estimated casualties may be due to the fact that Russia’s medical response is weaker, and they often leave their injured soldiers on the battlefield.
Volodimir Zelenski clarified that “his campaign medicine is weaker than ours and they don’t bring their injured back. If someone is injured on the battlefield, they stay there.” He added that these estimates are approximate but closely reflect the reality of the situation. In a separate interview with Fox News on January 24, Keith Kellogg, Special Envoy of President Donald Trump, stated that Ukraine’s losses in the war against Russia are greater than the combined US losses in the Vietnam and Korea wars.
