Donald Trump Holds First US Presidential Election Campaign Rally Since Assassination Attempt
Donald Trump, the former US president, held his first presidential election campaign rally since being the victim of an assassination attempt on Saturday, dismissing concerns that his leadership posed a threat to democracy. Trump appeared at a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he won in 2016 but lost to President Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump Denies Being an Extremist
Trump, who was accompanied by a smaller bandage than the one that covered his ear in recent days, insisted that he is not an extremist and dismissed his alleged links to "Project 2025," a radical manifesto led by figures close to him. He promised a "monumental tidal wave" in favor of Republicans in the upcoming elections and mocked Democrats "who don’t know who their candidate is."
Biden’s Health a Concern
Meanwhile, Biden’s health has become a central focus of the Republican campaign, with propaganda pieces featuring a president who makes gaffes, stutters or stumbles multiplying. Trump, 78, was careful not to attack Biden over his health during his speech at the convention, where he was officially nominated as the candidate.
Democrats Consider Replacing Biden
On the other side, Biden, 81, and his campaign have publicly remained adamant that he will remain in the race, though some reports suggest discussions have begun within his inner circle about how exactly he might step aside due to his physical and mental health. There has been much speculation about who might replace him, with Vice President Kamala Harris being seen as the most likely candidate.
Republicans Unite Behind Trump
A Biden exit from the race could, however, destabilize the Republicans, who would be forced to review their electoral strategy. Trump, on the other hand, is enjoying his luck and is enjoying the Democrats’ setbacks. His image after the attack, with his face covered in blood and a raised fist as he was led away by Secret Service agents, traveled around the world and reinforced his image as a strongman.
Election Day Approaches
The presidential elections in the United States will be held on November 5.
