Donald Trump’s love affair with Tesla seems to be over. After a public fallout with Elon Musk, the president is considering selling his Tesla Model S. The car, which he bought just a few months ago, was seen as a symbol of his support for Musk.
According to CNBC, a source from the White House revealed that Trump is thinking of selling or even giving away his Model S. This comes after a disagreement with Musk, which started when Trump eliminated the mandate for electric vehicles. Trump claimed that this mandate forced people to buy cars they didn’t want.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said that his decision “drove Elon Musk crazy.” This move marked the end of their relationship, which had been strained since Musk participated in Trump’s campaign events and faced backlash from Tesla owners.
Trump never really liked electric cars. He even called them a threat to the US auto industry, saying they were “fascist, Marxist, and communist” because they were made in China. In 2017, he pulled the US out of the Paris Agreement, a climate change pact.

Trump’s opposition to clean energy policies and electric vehicles is no secret. He has repeatedly criticized Musk and his projects, including Tesla. In 2022, Trump even boasted that he could have made Musk “drop to his knees and beg” for help with his projects.
It’s clear that Trump’s interest in Tesla was never genuine. Now that his relationship with Musk is over, he no longer feels obligated to pretend to like the brand. The question is, what will happen to his Model S next?
