President Donald Trump approved the deployment of fewer than 1,500 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East, according to NBC News. The mobilization occurs as the United States presented Iran with a 15-point peace plan intended to halt the ongoing regional conflict.
The military deployment will consist of headquarters staff and specific ground forces rather than a full 3,000-troop brigade. Speaking from the White House, Trump stated the United States has “won this war” and claimed that Iranian negotiators provided a “gift” concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump, who has previously discussed the Iran nuclear deal, further claimed that Tehran has agreed to never obtain a nuclear weapon.

The United States’ peace proposal was delivered to Iran via Pakistani mediation, Reuters reported Tuesday. The diplomatic push coincides with continued military operations in the region.
The Israeli military issued immediate evacuation orders for residents in seven neighborhoods in Beirut’s southern suburbs. The warnings precede anticipated strikes on alleged Hezbollah infrastructure in areas including Haret Hreik, Laylaki, Haddad, and Borj el-Branjeh. Israel is also pursuing the establishment of a defensive buffer zone extending to the Litani River in southern Lebanon.
The current conflict began on February 28 following joint United States and Israeli strikes against Iran. The regional war has caused disruptions to global energy markets, prompting the Philippines to declare a national energy emergency and forcing Vietnam to cut domestic flights due to jet fuel shortages. The conflict has resulted in over 1,070 Lebanese and 1,340 Iranian fatalities.
