He is accused of having published in 2014 a morbid photo where he posed in the Syrian city of Raqqa with a decapitated head and whose caption indicated: “Moment of relaxation with my friend, or what is left of it”.

In the early days of his trial, Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary denied the terrorism charges, said he had never been to Raqqa and that he was not the person in the photo. He was the son of Adel Abdel Bary, an Egyptian sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2015 in New York for his involvement in the bombings, claimed by Al-Qaeda, against the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. in 1998.
