Trial of the attacks of November 13: Gérald Darmanin calls for maximum vigilance

In a telegram sent Monday to the police prefects of Paris and Bouches-du-Rhône, and of which CNEWS had today a copy, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, calls for “a high level of vigilance” during the trial of the attacks of November 13, 2015, which begins this Wednesday.

In this note, also addressed to the prefects of the metropolitan and overseas defense zones, the boss of Place Beauvau thus requests from the various persons in charge of the security of the territory their “collective vigilance (…) total both with regard to the endogenous and exogenous (terrorist) threat ”.

Gérald Darmanin reminds us that, last year, the trial of the January 2015 attacks had been the occasion of a “succession of attacks on national territory” (against the former premises of Charlie Hebdo, assassination of Samuel Paty mi -October) after the republication by the satirical weekly of cartoons of Muhammad.

However, this telegram does not mean that there is today a specific threat. It comes from the rest in the line of a previous note, sent during the summer, and sets more precise instructions.

In this sense, the Minister of the Interior orders his executives to maintain “a high level of vigilance, especially around places of worship, places of learning, large gatherings”, all the more so as this increased surveillance is part of a “return to normal” context.

“A visible and dissuasive presence”

“You will therefore mobilize the internal security forces for a visible and dissuasive presence,” adds Gérald Darmanin.

The Vigipirate posture is also maintained at the “enhanced security” level and has been supplemented, since August 24, by a special measure in order to restrict activities near the premises of the Ministry of Justice, cultural establishments, places of worship, or the police stations and gendarmeries.

The trial of the jihadist attacks of November 13, the deadliest committed on French territory, opens this Wednesday, September 8 for nine months before the special assize court in Paris.

A total of 20 defendants are being prosecuted there, including Salah Abdeslam, the only survivor of the commandos which left 130 dead and several hundred injured. The attacks targeted the Stade de France, terraces of Parisian bistros and the Bataclan concert hall.
