A train consisting of 26 cars was involved in a collision with a van that had stopped on the tracks of the Central Railway at kilometer 141 in Florida. The incident occurred at 5 a.m. on a Saturday, as stated in the primary police report.
Response and Investigation
Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the van on the side of the track, having been hit by the train. Fortunately, the three male occupants of the van, all of legal age, had managed to exit the vehicle before the impact and did not sustain any injuries.
Cargo and Train Details
The van was transporting a trailer carrying empty beehives, as reported by the Florida Police Headquarters. On the other hand, the train, which typically carries pulp from the UPM plant in Paso de los Toros to the port of Montevideo, had unloaded cars at the time of the incident.
Tests and Staff Involved
A blood alcohol test was conducted on both the driver of the van and the driver of the locomotive, with both results showing zero. The staff of the 8th Florida Police Section and the Scientific Police were involved in the investigation and response to the incident.
