Tragic Demise of Baby John: What Went Wrong for Varun

Disappointing Box Office Performance of ‘Baby John’

The highly anticipated film ‘Baby John’, directed by Atlee and starring Varun Dhawan, has failed to impress audiences. Despite the initial excitement and expectations, the movie received overwhelmingly negative reviews and word of mouth. As a result, it had a lackluster opening on its first day and continued to decline in the following days.

A Steep Decline in Earnings

‘Baby John’ collected Rs 11.25 crore on its first day, but the earnings dropped significantly to Rs 5.13 crore on the second day. The film’s earnings continued to fall, with only Rs 3.30 crore collected on Friday. The weekend and New Year’s vibe failed to boost the film’s performance, with a minimal increase to Rs 4.20 crore on Saturday.

Underwhelming Weekend Performance

According to trade reports, ‘Baby John’ collected less than Rs 5 crore on its fifth day. The film’s total earnings in 5 days is less than Rs 30 crore, a disappointing figure considering its release between Christmas and New Year.

The Unstoppable ‘Pushpa 2’

In contrast, Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2’ continues to dominate the box office. Released on December 5, the film collected around Rs 13 crore on Sunday, nearly three times that of ‘Baby John’. Since the release of ‘Baby John’, ‘Pushpa 2’ has done a business of around Rs 55 crore. The film’s total collection in Hindi is over Rs 770 crore and is expected to cross Rs 800 crore soon.

A Missed Opportunity for Varun Dhawan

During the promotions of ‘Baby John’, director Atlee had stated that the film would establish Varun Dhawan as a superstar, similar to how ‘Animal’ boosted Ranbir Kapoor’s career. However, given the film’s poor performance, it is likely that Atlee may regret his statement.
