Tragedy Strikes Young Football Star in Montevideo Neighborhood

A Devastating Loss in the Community

Geral Froste, a 14-year-old goalkeeper for the Montevideo City Torque sub 14 team, was tragically murdered in the early hours of Wednesday, the 25th, in the Placido Ellauri neighborhood. The young athlete was shot in the chest and abdomen.

A Grandfather’s Tribute

Eriberto, Geral’s grandfather, remembered his grandson as an exceptional young man. “My grandson was an excellent botija,” he said, a sentiment echoed by the community. “What he did was play football. He lived for his football, he lived for City Torque.”

Geral’s daily routine consisted of studying, playing football, and spending time with family and friends. According to Eriberto, his grandson rarely spent time in the neighborhood, as he was always busy with his studies and football commitments.

A Life Cut Short

Eriberto described Geral as an excellent child who was loved by everyone in the neighborhood. “He was a piece of bread,” he recalled, highlighting his grandson’s kind and gentle nature. Geral’s life was marked by his passion for football, his love for his family, and his bright smile.

The grandfather did not witness the incident that took his grandson’s life. “When I saw, my grandson was already being thrown into a car to take him away,” he said, still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.

A Community in Mourning

The neighborhood is still reeling from the loss of Geral, a young life cut short by senseless violence. “They murdered him badly, they murdered him badly,” Eriberto said, his voice filled with grief. “He is a child who did not deserve this.”

Geral’s death has left a void in the community, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. As Eriberto so eloquently put it, “He killed us all, the entire neighborhood” because “here in the neighborhood he was loved, there was no one who didn’t love Geral, because he was a healthy botija, who had no evil at all, on the contrary, he lived laughing and It was all smiles. His life was a smile.”
