Tracker Season 3 Explains Bobby and Velma Exits for Show Evolution

The CBS hit series Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, has written out several key characters during its third season premiere. The Sunday, October 19 episode provided in-show explanations for these significant absences.

Reenie, portrayed by Fiona Rene, directly acknowledged Velma’s (Abby McEnany) departure. She explained that Velma was attempting to reconcile with her wife, Teddi, to save their marriage.

Meanwhile, Randy (Chris Lee) revealed that Bobby (Eric Graise) had also moved on. Randy shared a text message from Bobby, who is now an encryption specialist at a new company.

Bobby’s new position offers excellent compensation, including stock options and a competitive salary. He officially left his previous role at a repair shop.

These changes come after Tracker launched to record-breaking ratings in February 2024. Viewers have consistently tuned in to watch Hartley’s character, Colter, solve missing person cases nationwide.

Executive Producer Elwood Reid discussed the show’s creative direction in an earlier interview. He stated the series aims for dynamic character development and seeks to avoid a stagnant formula.

Reid emphasized that the central premise involves Colter arriving at a new location with a fresh case each week. The method by which he obtains answers and utilizes his team remains fluid.

The producer plans to introduce more unique local characters as the season progresses. This strategy allows Justin Hartley to interact with a wider range of guest actors.

Reid previously defended the decision to refresh the cast ahead of Season 3. He explained the goal is for supporting characters to be more than just contacts Colter calls in times of need.

Reenie and Randy will continue to be central figures in the series. Reenie is expanding her law practice, a move that will introduce a new character to her firm.

The ongoing storyline for Reenie and Randy also builds a stronger bond between them. Reid noted that these character developments aim to add lightness to Colter’s often intense and life-or-death cases.

Tracker airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS. Episodes are available for streaming the following day on Paramount+.
