Towns fouls and finishes with 11 points, Minnesota triumphs

MINNEAPOLIS – Anthony Edwards finished with 33 points and 14 rebounds and led the bombing of triples in the second half as the Timberwolves defeated Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat 113-101 on Wednesday for five straight wins.

Malik Beasley posted his best record of the season with 29 points from the bench and D’Angelo Russell added 20 for the Timberwolves, who had 55 attempts from long range, a franchise record, of which they connected 18. Edwards (six) , Beasley (five) and Russell (four) did most of the damage. The Wolves, who closed the game 11-2, went 11 of 27 on 3-pointers before the break.

The Dominican Karl Anthony Towns plays 29 minutes, scores 11 points, takes 6 rebounds and gives 4 assists.

Bam Adebayo led the Heat with 18 points and Butler had a quiet night with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists against his former team as he was booed by an angry crowd at the Target Center. Duncan Robinson added 17 points and star substitute Tyler Herro had 16 points on 5-of-18 shooting after a 31-point night in Detroit the day before.

Karl-Anthony Towns ran into foul trouble in the first quarter and finished with 11 points and six rebounds, but Jarred Vanderbilt made up for the inside game failure with 15 boards, his personal best, to keep his eight points going.

Edwards shines in high-intensity games like this one, and was a powerhouse in the Wolves’ second-half resurgence.

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- De’Aaron Fox scored 21 points before being sent off in the fourth quarter, Marvin Bagley III hit a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left and the Sacramento Kings held the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday to win 125- 121.

Buddy Hield added 22 points in 30 minutes off the bench and Davion Mitchell added 16 points to give the Kings their first win over interim manager Alvin Gentry. Gentry took over after the firing of Luke Walton on Sunday.

Damian Lillard finished with 32 points and 10 assists for Portland. Jusuf Nurkic added a season-high 28 points and 17 rebounds. The Trail Blazers were coming off four victories.

Fox was sent off with 6:06 left to play, after two technical fouls in a row on a night marked by six techniques and two ejections. Portland’s Robert Covington was sent off in the first half after throwing his glasses at the referee’s feet.

HOUSTON 118

HOUSTON – Danuel House Jr. scored 18 points, Christian Wood added 16 with 10 rebounds and the Houston Rockets ended a 15-game losing streak by beating the Chicago Bulls 118-113 on Wednesday night.

Kevin Porter Jr. had 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists after missing three games with a bruise on his left thigh. Second overall pick Jalen Green scored 11 points in the first quarter before leaving with a left leg injury.

Houston improved to 2-16. He made 50% from the field and 17 of 36 triples, including 8 of 11 behind the arc in the third quarter.

Zach LaVine led Chicago with 28 points. Lonzo Ball added 19, DeMar DeRozan 17 with seven assists and Alex Caruso added 15 points,

Nikola Vucevic contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds in his return after missing seven games due to NBA health and safety protocols.
