For the second time, César Valdez obtains the lead in Clean Run Average in a national baseball contest. Before this year he had reached it in 2019-20 with 1.11 in 40.2 episodes. This time he finished with 1.58 in 45.2 innings. The only other pitcher that in the history of Dominican winter baseball has obtained this crown twice has been Juan Marichal; in 1960-61 he posted a PCL of 1.41 in 102 innings and in 1963-64 he posted a 1.36 in 92.2 innings.
Valdez achieved the traditional triple crown of pitching by obtaining the leads in wins, PCL and strikeouts given, but lost the percentage (PCL-K/9IL-WHIP), in my opinion much more valuable, by finishing third in WHIP with 0.92 . He was surpassed by Edwin Uceta with 0.63 and Félix Peña with 0.88 in 32 and 33 episodes respectively.
Giants right-hander Richelson Peña was the pitcher with the most innings pitched in the regular series without allowing a home run. He completed 36 innings. As of the 2000-01 campaign, the best in that sense has been Yunesky Maya. In 2015-16, working with the Licey, he pitched 60 innings without anyone taking the ball out of the park.
In the Round Robin of that year he worked in 10.2 more innings and neither his rivals could hit him with a four-base hit. It should be noted that that year Maya did not make any presentation in the hostile, for the pitchers, Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco.
Águilas Cibaeñas center fielder Leody Taveras was awarded the Gold Glove. It should be noted that the elegant ranger made seven assists in the forty games in which he defended the position; respectable figure in that number of games.
Taveras’ Range Factor of 3.18 far outpaced everyone who guarded that area in at least twenty games. Socrates Brito followed with 2.28.
The jury that selects the Golden Gloves, of which I am a part, selected two center fielders for the award, a right fielder was not chosen, the other was Brito. My candidate for that position was Juan Lagares.
On two occasions Franchy Cordero del Esgido hit a home run entering to hit as a pinch hitter, the only one who has repeated the feat.
