Tottenham’s nightmare season just got worse with a 0-1 loss to Chelsea. The defeat marked their 16th in the Premier League.
Coach Ange Postecoglou was slammed by fans.
When he made two substitutions at the 64-minute mark, the crowd went wild. They shouted, “You don’t know what you’re doing!”
The tension escalated when Pape Matar Sarr, one of the new players, scored a goal. But it was disallowed after a VAR review.
The referee initially counted the goal, but then changed his mind after a six-minute delay.
Postecoglou was furious. He said, “This is killing the game. The referee made a call, and then it took six minutes to decide that it was a foul. It’s ridiculous.”
Fans were angry, and Postecoglou tried to calm them down. He gestured to the crowd, asking them to cheer louder.
But his actions were seen as provocative, and the crowd turned on him even more.
The coach believes the game is broken. He thinks VAR is taking away from the human element of the game.
“We’re going to get to a point where AI replaces referees and players,” he said. “Referees don’t make decisions on their own anymore.”
The loss leaves Tottenham in 14th place with 10 wins out of 30 games.
It’s been a tough season, and things just got tougher.
