Tottenham are working on signing a midfielder due to Bentancur’s injury

El Tottenham trabaja en el fichaje de un mediocampista por la lesión de Bentancur

Tottenham Hotspur are embarking on an intensive search for a new midfielder in the January transfer market following Rodrigo Bentancur’s ankle injury. The Uruguayan international, who recently returned to action after an eight-month recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, suffered another setback in the game against Aston Villa, leaving the team missing from midfield.

Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma, who stood out in Bentancur’s absence, have also struggled recently. Bissouma served two suspensions while Sarr returned from Senegal with an unspecified injury. With James Maddison out until 2024 and midfield options limited, Spurs are forced to strengthen their midfield.

Postecoglou needs a new midfielder

Tottenham have reportedly held internal discussions and increased their efforts to sign a midfielder. The possibility of a move for Manchester City expulsion Kalvin Phillips, who is seeking more playing time to improve his chances of being called up for Euro 2024, has been hotly debated.

Phillips, who has had a memorable spell at the Etihad, could be a valuable addition for Spurs. Meanwhile, it is rumored that more Tottenham midfielders could leave the club in January. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the list of possible replacements for Paul Pogba at Juventus and Giovani Lo Celso is the subject of interest from Barcelona.

With a four-game losing streak in the Premier League looming, Antonio Conte’s team wants to strengthen not only the midfield, but also positions on the wing and in the center of defense. Tottenham, currently in sixth place in the table, needs to strengthen its squad to stay in the race in the second half of the season.
