Top talents from 12 nations at Panam Sports camp

With the participation of a wide range of talents from 12 nations of the continent, the Pan American Union, Panam Sports and the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD), started a gymnastics camp at the facilities of that discipline, located in Parque del Este of this capital.

The official opening of the campsite was held this Thursday morning with an act headed by Antonio Acosta, president of the COD; Naomi Valenzo, president of the Pan American Gymnastics Union, as well as Gabriel Sagastume, official of Panam Sports; engineer Edwin Rodríguez, president of the Dominican Gymnastics Federation; Gilberto García, director of the COD’s Olympic solidarity program, among other personalities.

“The presence of this large number of young people augurs a great future for gymnastics in America”, stated Valenzo, while Antonio Acosta added: “Keep working towards the future. The objective is to promote the athletes of the continent”.

A total of 120 junior gymnasts from Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Aruba, El Salvador, Chile and the Dominican Republic participate in the preparation meeting.

Gilberto García, for his part, said that the Dominican Republic has been a great support for Panam Sports in the interest of strengthening the sport, in a general sense, in America.

Engineer Edwin Rodríguez, president of Fedogim, described the camp as very important and pointed out that it meets the objectives set. “High level and experienced coaches work with these young athletes,” he stressed.

Robinson Caballero, Ursula and Dieter Koch, Hilton Dicheli and Levon Karakhanyon participate as instructors, while Yasaira Cabrera, international judge and expert from the International Gymnastics Federation, is the camp coordinator.

The camp is sponsored by Panam Sports, the Latin American Gymnastics Union, the Dominican Olympic Committee and the Dominican Gymnastics Federation.

The camping will be taking place until next Sunday, November 27, in the gymnastics pavilion, with practices and theoretical talks taking place at the Olympic Hostel.
