The cycling world is talking about Jonathan Milan. Just a month after dominating the Tour de France points classification, Milan has inked a new deal. He will stay with the Lidl-Trek team until 2029. The American outfit announced the long-term extension this Friday. This move secures one of the sport’s top sprinters for years to come.
Lidl-Trek shared their excitement about the new agreement. “We are delighted to confirm that Jonathan Milan, our Tour de France green jersey winner, has signed a contract extension,” a team statement read. “This deal keeps him with us through 2029. In the past two seasons, Milan has truly become one of the fastest sprinters in the main group of riders.” His speed has certainly turned heads across the professional cycling circuit.
Milan, still only 24 years old, already boasts an impressive 24 career wins. Eight of those victories came this season alone. His highlight reel includes two stage wins at the recent Tour de France. He also proudly stepped onto the podium to claim the green jersey for the points classification.
Before his Tour de France heroics, Milan also shined at the Giro d’Italia. In his first year with Lidl-Trek, he won the points classification there. He also took home three stage victories in that race. His Grand Tour debut in 2023, while with Bahrain-Victorious, also saw him win a stage at the Giro.
Milan shared his thoughts on the new contract. “I feel incredibly fortunate to ride alongside this group of cyclists,” he said. “Their hard work constantly impresses me. I’m so grateful for their help in getting me to the finish line first. I truly believe we can keep getting better. Together, we can go after even bigger goals.” His words show a deep appreciation for his teammates.
Beyond his road success, Milan is also a star on the track. He won an Olympic gold medal in the team pursuit at Tokyo 2020. He then earned a bronze medal in the same event at Paris 2024. Milan also holds world championship titles. He won in team pursuit in 2021 and individual pursuit in 2024.
