Tony Peña on the Dominican team: “We have the names, but we have to win”

According to Tony Peña, the Dominican team that will compete in the World Baseball Classic from next week has enough sonorous names, "but games are won on the pitch”.

“That’s the basics of baseball."said Tony Pena.

Peña spoke with Héctor J. Cruz, sports editor, for the Sports News section of Listín Diario, which is disseminated through this newspaper’s digital platform.
"When we won in 2013 we had a lot of preparation, we didn’t have the names, but we prepared very well and that’s why we got good results."said Tony, interviewed from his home in Santiago. The Dominican team led by Peña went undefeated 8-0, and that is where the famous phrase "Banana Power".

Tony describes each of the heroes of the tournament, during which The Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico in the three games held.

He was also the team’s manager in the 4th. Clásico from 2017, but they couldn’t reach the final.

In the conversation, Peña speaks extensively about that victory, he says that on this occasion he has not been consulted at all by the Dominican leadership. And he also says that he is against the new baseball rules, like the pitching clock, and explains why.
