Tony da Silva Leaves Romanian Club: ‘No Minimum Conditions to Compete’

Portuguese coach Tony da Silva has departed Romanian club Politehnica Iasi, citing severe financial difficulties that undermined the team’s sporting ambitions and left him with months of unpaid wages.

Da Silva announced his resignation publicly, detailing a period of “sacrifice, dedication, and total commitment” that was ultimately hampered by insurmountable obstacles at the club.

He stated that while the team began the season well, “the severe financial difficulties of the club prevented the group from having the minimum conditions to maintain the necessary performance to fight for the promotion phase.”

The coach praised his squad, acknowledging their “character and commitment” in the face of adversity. He expressed pride in players who “believed, fought, and gave everything on the field.”

Da Silva also revealed that Politehnica Iasi still owes him three months of salary from the current year. Additionally, he claims outstanding amounts from the 2023-2024 season.

During the previous season, he noted he “saved the team from relegation when everything seemed impossible.” He chose not to pursue legal action against the club “out of respect” for Politehnica Iasi, its fans, and the city.

He extended gratitude to the technical staff, medical department, and other collaborators for their loyalty and professionalism during what he described as a particularly challenging period.

With his tenure in Romania concluded, Da Silva intends to “rest and prepare for the next project.” His time at the club was marked by both personal efforts to overcome challenges and persistent structural issues that compromised its objectives.
