Tondela’s Dire Primeira Liga Return: Record Low Points, High Conceded Goals

Ivo Vieira, Tondela coach

The journey back to the top flight has proven to be a difficult one for Tondela. Five games into the new season, coach Ivo Vieira’s squad has gathered only a single point. That lonely point came from a home draw against Estoril. This meager tally leaves the “Auriverdes,” as they are known, stranded at the very bottom of the league standings.

Sadly, this marks Tondela’s poorest start ever in the 1st League. This is the eighth time the “Beirões” club has competed at this level. Before now, their previous lowest total after five matches was recorded in the 2016/17 season. During that tough year, the club had only managed to collect two points by this same stage.

The struggles don’t stop there. Tondela has already let in ten goals this season. This is a new unwanted record for the team. It is worse than the nine goals they conceded at this point in the 2021/22 season, which was the year they were relegated. On the attacking side, they have only scored two goals. This modest output matches their previous worst goal-scoring record for this point in a season.
