The Curran family has made a name for itself in the world of cricket, with three brothers – Sam, Tom, and Ben – all involved in the sport. While Sam and Tom have established themselves as key players for the England cricket team, their middle brother Ben has taken a different path. Despite being born in England and playing domestic cricket for the country, Ben has made his international debut for Zimbabwe.
A Family Affair
Ben’s decision to play for Zimbabwe is not entirely surprising, given his family’s connection to the country. His father, Kevin Curran, played cricket for Zimbabwe, and Ben has followed in his footsteps. After playing for Northamptonshire until 2022, Ben made the move to Zimbabwe, where he has excelled in domestic cricket. His impressive performances in the Pro50 Championship 2024/25 and the Logan Cup 2024/25 earned him a spot in the Zimbabwe national team.
A Disappointing Debut
Ben’s debut match for Zimbabwe was against Afghanistan in an ODI series. Unfortunately, he failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 15 runs before being dismissed by Afghanistan bowler Azmatullah. Although the match was eventually canceled due to rain, Ben’s performance was still counted as his debut innings. Despite high expectations, Ben’s debut was a disappointment, and he will be looking to bounce back in future matches.
