Jamaican athlete Hansle Parchment nearly missed his semi-final in the 110-meter hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics. Luckily for him, a volunteer saved his day.
On August 4, the hurdler (that’s what hurdlers are called) had an appointment to contest the semifinal of the 110-meter hurdles. Bad luck, he took the wrong bus and headed to the aquatic center instead of the Tokyo National Olympic Stadium.
In a panic, the athlete asked for help from a volunteer who gave him money so that he could take a taxi. The runner was thus able to arrive in time for the warm-up. Second in the race, Hansle Parchment qualified for the final where he won the gold medal. A coronation that he wanted to share with his benefactress.
As seen in a video posted on her Instagram account, the champion found her to thank her and reimburse her for the taxi. A beautiful moment for the young volunteer, named Trijana, who was able to hold the gold medal in her hands and leave with an official shirt of the Jamaican delegation.
The story has reached the ears of the Jamaican authorities. “Every Jamaican knows that gratitude is a ‘must’. Hansle Parchment demonstrates this perfectly, “Prime Minister Andrew Holness reacted on Twitter. The island’s tourism minister even invited Trijana to visit Jamaica.
