The Chrisley family has finally opened up about the tragic loss of Nic Kerdiles, who was once engaged to their daughter, Savannah. Todd and Julie Chrisley recently shared their feelings on the “Chrisley Confessions 2.0” podcast, explaining why it took them some time to speak publicly about such a painful event.
Todd, 56, admitted that discussing Nic’s death has been incredibly difficult. “Many of the questions were: ‘Why haven’t you talked about Nic on the podcast yet?’ Well, it’s very simple, because it’s still very recent for me,” he said on a Wednesday, August 20th episode. “My heart hasn’t healed, and I don’t know if it ever will. I don’t feel like I owe it to anyone. I don’t feel like I owe anyone a discussion about how I feel about him today compared to how I felt when he lost his life.”
A Difficult Conversation
Todd told his listeners he had been “putting off” this talk because it’s “still very painful” to discuss Kerdiles’ passing. He confessed, “I just wasn’t ready to talk about it.” He even shared that he wasn’t truly ready even during the podcast recording. However, out of deep respect and the lasting love they have for Nic, he decided to have this conversation just once. “I won’t ever talk about it again,” he stated.
Nic Kerdiles died at 29 in September 2023 following a motorcycle accident. Savannah, who is 28, received the heartbreaking news while visiting Todd at FPC Pensacola, where he was incarcerated.
Remembering Nic’s Spirit
The grief is clearly still fresh for the family. “Out of respect for the love we have for him, I will tell you it was the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life,” Todd continued. He painted a picture of Nic for those who might not have known him well. “For those who don’t know, Nic Kerdiles was one of the kindest, funniest, and nicest young men.” Todd revealed his personal hopes for Nic and Savannah’s future, expressing a strong desire for them to marry and have grandchildren, a dream that sadly never came true.
Savannah and Kerdiles got engaged in 2019 after dating for two years. Their relationship had its ups and downs; they broke up in 2020, putting wedding plans on hold. After a brief attempt at reconciliation, the former couple officially ended their relationship in 2021.
A Lasting Bond
Despite the romantic split, Todd’s bond with Nic remained strong. “Even when they broke up, I still had lunch with Nic,” Todd said, adding, “I kept talking to Nic every day.” Julie chimed in, highlighting Nic’s unwavering support for Todd throughout his trial. “He and Savannah weren’t together anymore, but he was still there for us,” Todd explained. (Todd and Julie served 28 months in prison after being found guilty of tax evasion, bank, and wire fraud in 2022. President Donald Trump pardoned them in May, and they were released.)
The memory of Nic continues to resonate deeply with Todd. “Not a single day goes by that I don’t think about him,” Todd shared, his voice heavy with emotion. “I think I still grieve what could have been, because I always hoped they would find their way back to each other.”
