His little scheme brought him a nice sum. As the story goes France Blue, an employee of a tobacco shop in Montpellier, in the Hérault, stole many scratch games for weeks from the business that employed her. Aged 43, she would have stolen several thousand tickets since May 2021 for a total amount estimated at 80,000 euros. When she came across a winning game, she went to have it validated and went to collect her winnings in another tobacco shop, so as not to arouse suspicion.

It was this method that fed the doubts of several professionals, surprised by the luck of the player, who never bought the tickets from them. They therefore reported his behavior to the Française des jeux (FDJ), which for its part noticed that the winning games all came from the same trade. If it remains difficult to know how much she earned with this scam, earnings below 300 euros being paid by the tobacconist, the FDJ made eight transfers to her for 4,000 euros.

100 scratch games per day

During the search of the suspect’s home, the police also found 3,000 euros in cash, clothes and luxury bags. The forties, details France Bleu, will be summoned before a judicial police officer.

She is not the first employee to try to take advantage of her job to accumulate winnings at games of chance. In April 2021, the employee of a bar-tabac in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, was sentenced for having stolen hundreds of scratch games, which she stole from her workplace. The employee played at least 100 euros in tickets per day, for damage, again, estimated at 80,000 euros. The employee was finally sentenced for theft, she had to pay 5,000 euros in damages to her employer.
