The “Titanic” fascinates so much that since the discovery of its wreck in 1985, several private companies organize expeditions to explore the famous ocean liner. A dive 4,000 meters deep in the North Atlantic Ocean 650 km from the Canadian coast where the remains of the 269-meter ship lie.

Only one company is authorized to exploit the wreck of the “Titanic”: the RMS Titanic Incorporated, an American company. She has “exclusive rights” to “retrieve objects from the wreckage”, she says on his website.
A right granted for the first time by a decision of the Federal Court of the United States in 1994 then ratified in 1996. On the other hand, this does not mean that it owns the ship.
More than 5,000 objects brought to the surface
“His mission“, specifies the RMS Titanic Incorporated is of “recover these objects for scientific purposes to understand a little more the history of the famous liner, preserve the memory of the Titanic and all those who perished during the sinking“. The company organized eight expeditions to the wreck, the first in 1987.
At the time, some 1,800 objects were brought to the surface by the small submarine “Le Nautile”. With three explorers on board including Paul-Henri Nargeolet, one of the five passengers of the “Titan”. The submarine imploded, US authorities announced on Thursday evening, during an attempt to visit the wreckage.

In total, the RMS Titanic Incorporated recovered 5,500 objects on seven of the eight expeditions to the ship, the last dating back to 2010. It enabled the wreckage to be fully mapped. These objects are exhibited in museums in the United States but also at the Cité de la mer in Cherbourg. “Our goal is to explain in detail the construction of this ship, its crew, the different classes, the stories of the passengers, their hopes, their dream of joining the United States“, explains the RMS Titanic Incorporated.
For now, the American company has no plans for further shipments to the ship.
