Tim Anderson’s suspension reduced to two games

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson’s suspension for making contact with the umpire last month has been reduced from three to two games.

Anderson missed the afternoon game against the Texas Rangers to start his suspension, which will end after the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Kansas City. Leury Garcia, the top second baseman, will start Sunday’s game at shortstop.

MLB initially suspended Anderson three games (and fined him an undisclosed amount) for making contact with umpire Nick Mahrley on June 29 during an argument.

Anderson has a .301 batting average this season, but hasn’t had a hit in his last 15 at-bats.
