TikTok to Compete with Amazon Prime Day with its Own Live Shopping Event

TikTok is set to challenge Amazon Prime Day with its own shopping event, “Deals For You Days,” taking place on July 9 in the United States. The announcement comes just days after Amazon officially revealed the date of the event, Prime Day: July 16 and 17.

During the event, TikTok will offer exclusive deals from brands and retailers such as L’Oreal Paris, Maybelline New York, NYX Professional Makeup, Benefit Cosmetics, Too Faced, COOLA, and Our Place. These offers will be announced through the platform’s own sellers and content creators, who will publish challenges in short video format and live broadcasts.

TikTok bets heavily on e-commerce as a source of income and to maintain its relevance in the United States, where it faces possible regulatory restrictions. TikTok Shop estimates to have more than 15 million sellers worldwide, including a remarkable 500,000+ in the United States.

This initiative reflects TikTok’s continued effort to innovate in the user experience and in commercial capabilities, leveraging advanced technologies to maintain its position in the global social media and e-commerce market.

TikTok recently launched a new feature that allows users to take or upload a photo to find similar products on TikTok Shop, following the model of Google Lens, which facilitates visual search through photos or the camera. This innovative tool is now available to all users in the USA and Southeast Asia.

TikTok Shop in Spain?

As far as Spain is concerned, the arrival of TikTok Shop is imminent. According to the South China Morning Post, the e-commerce of the popular social network could see the light of day this summer in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, and Mexico, which would expand TikTok Shop’s presence to a total of 13 markets worldwide.

The social network has reportedly already begun inviting sellers to test a beta version of TikTok Shop in these new markets before the official launch. However, the criteria to be able to sell on TikTok Shop have been tightened. In the case of Mexico, sellers must have a locally registered entity and, in principle, are restricted from selling certain products such as food and jewelry.
