Thunderstorms: Météo France places 32 departments in orange vigilance

Météo France placed, this Wednesday, September 8, 32 departments in orange vigilance because of thunderstorms.

If this type of bad weather is not exceptional for the season, the meteorological organization estimates that these storms can “generate locally violent phenomena (runoff, hail, strong gusts)”.

Concretely, here are the 32 departments concerned by the alert, which extends from Ile-de-France to the Midi Pyrenees: Allier, Aude, Ariège, Aveyron, Cher, Corrèze, Creuse, Dordogne, Eure-et-Loir, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Loiret, Lot, Lot- et-Garonne, Nièvre, Hautes-Pyrénées, Sarthe, Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Vienne, Yonne, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’Oise.

This stormy axis should begin to be visible in the early afternoon “from the west of Occitanie to Limousin and the Center Val de Loire”, specifies Météo France. Very heavy rains are expected in these regions, in just a few hours. Wind and hail are also expected locally.

Over the course of the day, the disturbances will shift “towards the Paris region, the north of Auvergne and the Midi Toulousain”. With particularly worrying forecasts for the south, which should experience significant amounts of rain.

The Aude department, where 100 to 120 mm of rain is expected locally in a few hours, is also placed on orange rain and flood vigilance.
