Three American tourists found dead in a hotel in the Bahamas

What really happened? Three American tourists have been found dead in mysterious circumstances at a luxury hotel in the Bahamas, local authorities said on Friday. The facts occurred at Sandals Emerald Bay, a luxury hotel located on the beach on the island of Great Exuma.

“I have unfortunately been informed of the deaths of three American visitors, two men and a woman, in a hotel in Exuma,” the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Chester Cooper, said in a statement. “The police are investigating, and the cause of death is unknown” but “no foul play is suspected”, he added. A fourth person, an American woman, was airlifted to a hospital, the official added, without giving further details.

Awaiting autopsy results

“A health emergency was initially reported and, in accordance with our protocols, we immediately alerted health professionals and local authorities,” commented the Sandals Resorts group, declining to give further details “out of respect for the privacy of our hosts. Police were told shortly after 9 a.m. local time on Friday that a man had been found “unconscious” in the hotel, law enforcement said. Once there, the investigators found in one of the villas an unconscious first man, lying on the ground.

“No signs of trauma were found”, and the victim was pronounced dead a little later, according to the police. In a second villa, the police found another man “slumped against a wall”, as well as a woman, lying in a bed, also deceased. This couple had complained of suffering from an “illness” the day before and had been “treated” before returning to their accommodation, added the police, without specifying what they were suffering from. Investigators said they are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of these enigmatic deaths.
