This toilet turns your poop into crypto, but token is down the drain

Inventors are often special people. They come up with things that you sometimes didn’t even think possible, but sometimes they come up with things that go very far. A South Korean professor has now invented a toilet that converts your feces into energy. This energy was used to generate energy and clean drinking water – and to pay for your donations in a cryptocurrency.

Earn crypto on the toilet

The project was started by Cho Jae-weon, a professor at South Korean university Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology. He called the toilet BeeVi.

In a white paper ten researchers from the university explain exactly how the toilet works. The droppings end up in a tank, where bacteria convert them into methane gas. A an average person produces about 500 grams of feces every day. That is enough for 50 liters of methane.

This can be used for cooking, to heat rooms or to drive a car 1.2 kilometers. You can also use it for 0.5 kilowatts of electricity wake up. It is also linked to a cryptocurrency called Ggool, which means honey in Korean.

Everyone who uses the toilet earned about 10 Ggool a day, students explained Reuters. They could use this to buy things on campus, from fresh coffee to fruit and books. Wash your hands first, of course.

Crypto no longer used

Unfortunately, the cryptocurrency has gone underan. The coin was loosely based on Feces Standard Money (FSM), a project of the same university. On Cointelegraph Jae-woon stated that the project has been at a standstill since February, when the coin went down along with the rest of the market. Ggool was designed for a negative interest of as much as 7%, to discourage holding the coin. As a holder, you had to spend it to avoid losing your purchasing power.

Cho thinks people weren’t that enthralled by the project’s ideology, although he still sees a future in the principle. The gas could be used for cooking or as heating fuel. However, that would require considerable investment.
