Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin has decided to step down as head of her Social Democrats after losing the parliamentary elections.
Speaking to reporters in the capital Helsinki, Marin said he had decided not to serve as party chief from September. He plans to return to Parliament soon.
Before this, the leftist Sana Marin lost to the right-wing leader Peteri Orpo in a tight fight in the parliamentary elections last Sunday.
In 2019, at the age of 34, Sana Marin became the world’s youngest head of government in Finland. He has won wide praise at home and abroad for taking a leading role in tackling the Covid pandemic and Finland’s accession to NATO. Sana Marin led the five-party coalition government for four years, all of her coalition parties are led by women.
