An environmentally friendly battery made without the use of toxic substances or heavy metals that works for a few minutes after immersion in water. It’s called AquaCell and it’s available in stores now.
“To activate the battery, you just have to immerse it in water for five or ten minutes so that the positive and negative ions mix,” explains Olivier Chauffat, one of the three Swiss shareholders of the brand that sells the battery.
This alkaline battery replacement is made of polypropylene, a plastic with an 85% recycling rate compared to 50% for traditional batteries, and is lightweight (12-13 grams).
Unlike traditional batteries that lose power after leaving the factory, this environmentally friendly battery has no voltage and only produces electricity when activated. Therefore, the manufacturer’s export states that it can be stored indefinitely.
These batteries can be used in medium to low consumption devices such as radios, clocks, walkie-talkies, LED flashlights or remote controls, where they have a lifespan of about two years, slightly shorter than alkaline batteries.
