On December 23, Huawei will reveal, in an official event, several novelties in its portfolio of equipment. Among the new features are the wearable D-watch and the new P50 Pocket folding smartphone.

Let’s focus on this latest model as more details about the team have been revealed online. According to the now advanced information, the P50 Pocket will be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 9000 processor, with no support for 5G due to US sanctions.

The equipment will have two AMOLED screens, the main 6.85-inch and the external one-inch. In the optical part, it will integrate a triple camera configuration with a 50 megapixel Sony IMX766 primary sensor, complemented by a second sensor with 13 megapixels and a third with eight megapixels.

The pocket price of the Huawei P50 may be lower than that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

The Huawei P50 Pocket will be equipped with a robust 4100 mAh battery with support for fast charging of 66 watts. And, at this specific point, it surpasses its rival Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 that integrates a 3300 mAh battery with a charge of only 15 watts.

Rumors circulating in the web world indicate that the new folding Huawei can be made available for a cost of around 890 euros, but the value has not been officially confirmed. If the information is confirmed, this could be another point in favor of the Chinese terminal, since the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a cost in Portugal of 1,099 euros.

Samsung and Huawei dominate the foldable smartphone market

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the most popular phone in the folding smartphone segment

Foldable smartphones have been gaining popularity lately. According to DSCC, total sales of this type of equipment increased 215% in the third quarter of 2021, compared to the previous quarter.

The same company concluded that Samsung and Huawei have 99% of the global share of folding smartphone sales. However, the South Korean giant owns 93% of the market while Huawei occupies only 6% of that same market.

There are two reasons for this to happen. On the one hand, the restrictions imposed by the US government on the Chinese brand limit its capacity in the market. And on the other hand, the fact that Samsung has changed its pricing strategy to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. By making the terminal more affordable, the South Korean company has made it the most popular and successful folding smartphone of the moment.
